hotel sofia welcome to the family

It all started when…

Our story began in 1989 when the dream that Stavros and Sofia Lotos had of owning their own hotel became a reality.  After many years of hard work in the ancient town of Pythagorio, Stavros, a plumber and Sofia, a cleaner, finally saved enough money to purchase their first piece of land in Kampos.  Together with their young sons Vasilis and Manolis they moved to Kampos and little by little they built on and then purchased more land and built again until the complex you see today was complete. They started with the small house and back buildings and developed the site until finally, in 2005, the pool, the large building, reception and restaurant were complete.

So began the 30 years of hard work and dedication to creating a family environment in which all guests are welcomed ; this ethos has led  to long term friendships, laughter and kinship regardless of language barriers, resulting in many return guests, some visiting the hotel every year over the span of 22 years.

This alone is a testament to the love and care the Lotos family have put into their work with hotel and guests. There have been setbacks along the way- for example the Greek economic crisis; the bankruptcy of major tour operators and fires which decimated parts of Samos all of which adversely affected the tourist industry. However, with the grit and determination of the Lotos family and the unflagging support of their many returning friends and guests the Hotel Sofia has pulled through to be the successful and much-loved place it is today.

Now the Hotel is in the care of Vasilis, his wife Nova and his brother Manoli.  With new ideas and hopes for the future the hotel has undergone many changes, moving from strength to strength.

Some recent innovations are: a recycling point; a large paperback library and the very popular buffet breakfast offering Nova’s delicious homemade jams and cakes, fresh fruit and vegetable dishes; cheeses with the family’s own olives and olive oil. The family’s passion for fresh local grown produce is evident not only in the buffet breakfasts and light lunches on offer but also in the traditional Saturday night BBQ. Possible future additions may include cultural retreats and hiking expeditions.

First and foremost the Family are devoted to maintaining all the things that make the Hotel Sofia special….along with our many repeat guests we warmly invite you to join us in our journey….
